THE MANAGING DIRECTOR'S ADDRESS DURING PRESENTATION OF ISO 9001:2008 CERTIFICATION

The Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Director General of Standard Organisation of Nigeria and other Senior officials of SON, the Chairman Board of Directors of Food, Agro & Allied Industries Ltd., and Sona group, Captains of industries, our esteemed customers, my colleagues in Sona group , ladies and gentlemen.

On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of Food, Agro & Allied Industries Ltd I extend a very warm welcome to you all to this epoch making event. It is an honour that after a very rigorous exercise of the certification process, the Standard Organization of Nigeria considered us worthy of being granted this certification.

Our conviction, when we embark on this certification process was to become a world-class company worthy of emulation for premium quality products and processes that are favourably comparable to the best in any part of the world.

For the SON officials to have been here today for the presentation/unveiling of the certificate is an affirmation that our desire has been achieved.

As a corporate organization, our company have every reason to look into the future with more confidence and brighter ideas. Various expansion and modification is already embarked upon to enlarge capacity and improve quality. Our vision 2014 is to further diversify into production of unique and high value products like Sorghum Syrup, Caramel, Glucose Syrup, High Fructose Syrup, Maltose, Dextrose presently being imported from overseas, we aspire to export these products.

We are partnering with USAID, NGOs and Seed Development companies to improve production of our basic raw material Sorghum. Through distribution of better seed, farm inputs, expertise and training in sorghum farming, post harvest processing and storage, we aspire to ensure higher yield per hectare, better quality and variety of sorghum, ready market and reasonable price for the produce ensuring socio-economic development of sorghum farmer and others involved in the chain of activities.

Sorghum as staple cereal is not a preferred item in most Nigerian palate because of its inherent nature of protein, starch and other contents. However, after malting, it is converted into a very nutritious and palatable cereal. Sorghum malt flour as it is sold in nice pack, brand name like Malt Bela in South Africa and neighbouring countries as breakfast cereals. Malt flour has the potential to be used widely as breakfast cereal, weaning formulae for babies, in making of bread and confectionaries and as a nutritional additives to white flour, I appeal to the end users, other malting companies and Policy maker to formulate policy and guidelines for fruitful use of this agricultural resources abundantly available in the country.

We wish to assure all our stakeholders that we would not rest on our oars but would rather continue to strive to improve on the standards already set to actualize our vision 2014 and beyond. Our success story is incomplete without recognizing inspiration and commitment of our Chairman for quality and standards and his vision and support. I say thank you sir.

I wish to end this address by expressing my profound appreciation to all our guests who because of the love they have for us left their tight schedules to honour our invitation with their presence.

My special appreciation also goes to the SON staff who have guided us through the whole exercise. Your professionalism is well appreciated.
